Essex Free cardholders have access to the below online resources. To log into each resource, please click the icon link. When prompted to log in, use your 14-digit barcode number located on the back of your library card. If prompted for a password, please enter your last name in lowercase letters.
Download items from our collection of ebooks and audiobooks. You can also download the Libby app to read on your mobile device.
A new streaming service that partners with libraries to provide communities with free and unlimited access to an exciting, ad-free catalogue of groundbreaking film and captivating television available on any device.
Hoopla is a digital media service that allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV!
Essex Free Library patrons now have access to nearly 5,000 digital magazine titles!
Overdrive offers full-color digital magazines that can be viewed using a web browser or the Libby app. The collection includes many popular digital magazines. There are no limits and magazines checkouts do not count towards the GMLC Overdrive limit for eBook and eAudiobook checkouts.
The Palace Project app provides eBook and eAudiobook content. It has shared content from Libby plus additional resources but will not have shared content from hoopla . This service is made possible by the Vermont Department of Libraries.
The titles in Libby are not affected by this change. If you like the Libby app, you can continue to use it.
You can only access Palace from an app (Apple Store , Google Play). At this time, it is not available on Kindle or personal computers. The Palace Project app is still in development, which means some features available on other digital content apps may not be offered yet.
To download the app and sign in:
- Search for Palace Project in your device’s app store. Apple App Store / Google Play Store.
- After downloading the app, select “Find Your Library,” and choose Essex Free Library from the alphabetized selection.
- To sign in, select the settings icon in the lower-right hand corner of the screen, then enter your LIBRARY CARD NUMBER and LIBRARY PASSWORD and select LOG IN.
- Browse, borrow and enjoy!
The password is the same one used to log in to your account and Libby.

Vermont Online Library offers a wide array of electronic databases through Gale/Cengage on a variety of topics geared to a variety of age levels. Includes Chilton Repair manuals for vehicles. The information is produced by known and trusted publishers.
